Although this fund may offer value the structure is flawed. As much as I believe that economic development is going to play a bigger role in attracting business and jobs, having a slush fund to feed winners and losers is wrong, especially when elected officials have their hands in the jar. The goal of council and government is to create an environment that is business and jobs friendly through lower taxes and less red tape. Under the funds present format I would like to see it dissolved. #YYCCC #YYC

Here we go again. Some people on council figure the city budget is their personal bank. One of the biggest problems this council has is bending a knee for every problem in society. Saying this I am extremely sympathetic for the people that choose to live in this area and the lack of insurance they had, or the famous fine print which insurance companies bring forward. Just like city taxes, insurance premiums go up and coverage (service goes down). This is not a builder’s problem as Councillor Chahal implies, however I am sure if any Councillor or Mayor wanted to donate some of their own money, I am sure the residents in the affected areas would be appreciative. This problem is a supply and demand issue. Every household has the option to upgrade to stronger product if they so choose. Unfortunately, people only have so much money and have to make choices.
As the Province said just after the storm they will help, however the insurance companies need to buck up first. Unfortunately, not all insurance companies did. So, who is responsible? Ultimately and unfortunately the home owner is. Fortunately, we have social systems in place to help with this type of damage. The City of Calgary is not part of that financial social system, nor should they. This is a Federal and Provincial responsibility. If City council chose to act as a conduit to get both the Federal and Provincial governments to help more and faster. I and many others would be supportive of that. If not and politicians want to go down this path, I know a lot of households, groups and associations who could use a grant to fund their challenges.

Today council in it wisdom pushed off moving the guidebook until after the election. I am appalled at this decisions, for a few reasons. 1. The bulk of the CA are against proceeding. 2. Consultation was all but non existing. 3. Five Councilors and Mayor will not be around in 6 month. In a true democracy tax payers opinions would matter.
As your Ward 3 representative, I will always consult with you and honour your opinions. Working with communities was, is, and will always be my first priority.

Calgarians deserve transparency and accountability. You deserve to know how your money is being spent. Having to wait two years for the bid book for scuttled 2026 Olympic bid only to receive a heavily redacted version is unacceptable. Also changing the Guidebook currently being debated to a Statutory Document without telling anyone is changing the rules half way through.

It seems you get better concentration with conversations therapy than you do with community planning. With all the uproar council should pull back and talk with the public, after all they are the one being affected.

Between 2014 and 2019, Calgary saw the departure of nine head offices and 3,600 head office jobs, according to Statistics Canada. The number of head office jobs in Alberta fell by almost 5,500 positions while it rose by almost 2,800 positions in the rest of the country.
Elect me as your Ward 3 councilor and I will focus more attention on Economic Development “focus on attracting businesses, and less time trying to justify decisions.” If people have jobs, businesses and families can survive, our economy will once again flourish.

City council needs more cost control and provide actual answers. The next four years the council off the day has their work cut out for themselves. We need people with real experience. People are tired of dreams and I Will’s. A good question to ask potential candidates would be, what qualifications do you bring with you. For me I come from the manufacturing industry. I am a red seal millwright. I was elected in the 90’s in BC and have successfully managed up to $20 million budgets, both increasing profitability and employee satisfaction at the same time. #YYCCC #YYC

Being an election year the same politicians are promising everything. My experience with this is these same people always revert to past habits. My stance is that we need to look at what we are spending. Does it balance the cost to maintain our existing infrastructure? As an operations person I see many on council are pricing Calgary out of the market with their tax and spend attitude. Others running for council are also preaching the same spending for big projects. We need to start holding the line on spending as every project or dream has a cost. #YYCCC #YYC #YYCWard3
